The Implementation of Model Problem Based Learning with Technique Scaffolding in Mathematics Learning for Grade VIII Students of SMPN 12 Padang

Abstrak

One of the obstacles faced by mathematics teachers in implementing the 2013 curriculum is the lack of student participation in the learning process so that teachers dominate the learning process. Students have not been confronted with a real problem as a basis for understanding abstract things. So that there are still a lot of grade VII students at SMPN 12 Padang who have not reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria on the final semester of the math final exam TP 2017/2018. This can be overcome by applying themodel PBL with Techniques Scaffolding.

The grade eighth students of SMPN 12 Padang TP 2018/2019 became the population in this research. Classroom sampling is carried out randomly from populations that have the same average. Class VIII.7 consists of 29 experimental class students and VIII.5 class consists of 31 control class students.

Learning outcomes data are obtained after the two sample classes get treatment. Based on the data of students' mathematics learning outcomes, hypothesis testing was carried out with t-test at the level . From the calculation results obtained tcount=0.8107 and t(0.95; 58) = 1.689. Because t(0.95; 58) > tcounts the proposed hypothesis is rejected. The conclusion is that students' mathematics learning outcomes by applying model PBL with Technique are Scaffolding as good as students' mathematics learning outcomes that apply ordinary learning to the eighth grade students of SMPN 12 Padang TP 2018/2019.

From the results of this research, the researcher suggests that the mathematics teacher or reader can better adjust thetechnique scaffolding that is run with the theory that has been revealed in the learning process. Problems presented in the worksheets should pay attention to page density so students are interested in reading the problem.
