Abstrak

One of the objectives of mathematics learning expected by the Minister of National Education Regulation No. 22 of 2006 is the ability to solve mathematical problems. Based on the results of observations made it appears that problem-solving abilities are classified as low. This problem can be caused because students are accustomed to working on routine questions without explaining how to solve them. This is illustrated by solving story problems, there are still many students who are wrong or incomplete in identifying problems. This can be overcome by a cooperative learning model with anapproach open ended.

In this experimental study, the population used was class VII. Samples were selected from the existing population, after it was discovered that a homogeneous population was chosen by two random sample classes. From both sample classes, the experimental classes are VII3 and VII2 used as the control class.

The result data obtained in the sample class shows that tcounts> ttable(tcount= 1.80 and ttable = 1.68). So it was concluded that the students' ability to solve mathematical problems that applied the cooperative learning model by learning the open ended approach was better than learning that applied ordinary learning in class VII of SMPN 6 Pariaman.

From the results of the research note that the implementation of cooperative learning models with approaches open ended can improve problem solving abilities. In addition, researchers also suggest that teachers can apply this learning model as one of the variations in teaching.
