Education is a conscious and planned effort to reach the learning
atmosphere and the learning process so that students actively develop their
potential to have spiritual, religious, self-control, personality and intelligence,
noble character, and skills needed by themselves, society, nation and country.
Mathematics is a basic science that has an important role in the development of
science and technology. Other disciplines require mathematics as a tool to solve
the problems they face because mathematics is the queen of science. Given the
important role of mathematics, the government continues to strive to improve the
quality of education.
An alternative to solve problems is that a learning model must be applied
that involves students playing an active and creative role when learning takes
place. When students are often faced with problems in the form of problems, they
will have more experience and are accustomed to solving the problems they face.
One solution that can be applied / used to overcome the above problems is to use
the Problem Solving learning model.
The type of this research is experimental research. The population of this
study were all fifth grade students of Islamic Elementary School Ibnu Syam
registered in the 2017/2018 school year. With the sampling technique, namely
total sampling, the VA class is obtained as the experimental class and VB class as
the control class. The research instrumen t is a test of student learning outcomes in
the form of questions in the form of descriptions.
The results showed that the average value of the test results of the
experimental class and control class were 71.9 and 62.4. This means that the
average value of the experimental class is higher than the control class. Based on
the hypothesis analysis with the t -test, obtained tcount = 2.267 with t table
= 2.017,
meaning tcount> t table
. Thus H0 is rejected or H1 is accepted. Thus it can be
concluded that the Problem Solving learning model influences the mathematics
learning outcomes of fifth grade students of Islamic Elementary School Ibnu
Syam.
