The background of this study was found that the interaction between teachers and students, and also between students and other students is very rare. This makes students become bored in learning. In addition, found in biology learning teachers do not improve students' creativity. The tendency to use lectures in front of the class still dominates the learning strategies that are used vary, so that students are less active in discussing with their peers. This is because the lecture is very practical, easily implemented by the teacher and can deliver quite a lot of teaching material.

This type of research is experimental research. This study was conducted from 12 to 22 February 2018 in the even semester of the 2016/2017 school year in Setia High School, Mentawai Islands Regency. The population is the whole studied. The population in this study is the entire class XI Plus Faithful High School consisting of 4 classes, registered in the 2017/2018 school year. The sample is part of the population, there will be no sample if there is no population. The sample in this study was taken from members of the population which consisted of two classes with a retrieval technique which was purposive sampling technique. Where two classes are taken from members of the population, which have an average value close to the same. Whereas to determine the experimental class and control class, random sampling was conducted.               The results showed that the average cognitive learning outcomes of students in the experimental class was 79.42, while the average value in the control class was 74.23. The result was 9,71> t table 2,03 at the confidence level 0,05, then H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It can be concluded that the results of student biology learning by using Group Investigation learning models are higher than using conventional learning models. Where there are differences in learning outcomes in the application of Group Investigation learning models in learning biology class XI Setia High School Mentawai Islands District. From the results of the t test, it is obtained t count, which is 9.71 while the t table is 2.03.    Keywords: Learning biology, Group Investigation, learning outcomes of biology
