ENHANCEMENT OF LEARNING INTEREST FOR STUDENT IN IV GRADES WITH EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION MODEL FOR IPS SUBJECT IN SDN 16 HILALANG PANJANG PESISIR SELATAN REGENCY

Abstrak

Based on observation and interview in SDN 16 Hilalang Panjang Pesisir Selatan regency, writer found a problem that is lack of student’s interest that caused by teacher’s inability to give variation in learning process and teaching methods. Formulation of problem in this research is how to enhance student’s interest in IPS subject through Explicit Instruction. The advantage of this research is theoretically and practicality. The type of this research is class measuring research. Subject in this research is 20 students of IV grades. Instruments in this research are observation sheet of teacher’s activity, and questionnaire about student’s interest. From results show that average percentage for student’s interest in questioning is 29.70% in first cycle and 75% in second cycles; average percentage for student’s interest in answering is 30.08% in first cycle and 75% in second cycles; and average percentage for student’s interest in finishing tasks is 80.29% in first cycle and 100% in second cycles. Based on results, it can be conclude that Explicit Instruction can increase student’s interest in IPS learning. It is suggested to use Explicit Instruction to increase student’s interest in IPS learning.
