A STUDY OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN COMPREHENDING SPOOF TEXT AT SMAN 1 AIR PURA PESISIR SELATAN

Abstrak

This research attempted to describe the second year students` ability in comprehending spoof texts at SMAN 1 Air Pura Pesisir Selatan. The design of this research was descriptive. The members of population of this research were 125. The researcher used stratified sampling technique in taking the sample since the students were distributed into five classes and the groups were not homogeneous. The researcher got two classes as the sample and it consisted of 51 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used reading test. From the result of the try out, the researcher found the reability index of the test was 0.898. This indicates that the test was reliable.

To collect the data, the researcher used reading test in form multiple choice. The researcher only measured A Study of The Second Grade Students’ Ability in Comprehending Spoof Text at SMAN 1 Air pura Pesisir Selatan. In analyzing data researcher did the following steps. First the researcher calculated the score and present the row score, the second the researcher classified the students’ score by using criteria of KKM, the third the researcher calculated the precentage the students who get good, and bad Ability by using the following formula, and the last finally the researcher interpreted the result of data analysis.

After analyzing the data, it was found that second year students of SMAN 1 Air Pura Pesisir Selatan had bad ability in comprehending spoof text. They had bad ability in comprehending orientation, events and twist. the result of research it was indicated by the fact that 66,67% students bad ability in comprehending orientation,  62,75% students had bad ability in comprehending event and 50.98% students had bad ability in comprehending twist.

Based on the findings of this research, it can be concluded the second year students of SMAN 1 Air Pura Pesisir Selatan bad ability in comprehending spoof text. By having known the students` ability in comprehending spoof text, the English teacher are expected to improve students` ability in comprehending spoof text by giving more exercises to the students. Besides, she suggests the students to do more exercises about reading spoof text and so that their reading comprehending about spoof text can be improved.
