Effects of Mathematical Logical Intelligence on Mathematics Learning Outcomes of Class VIII Students of SMP 34 Padang
Abstrak
This research is motivated because students are less skilled in calculating or solving math problems, lack of student effort in working on problems that are considered difficult, students have difficulty in determining the steps to solving problems. With conditions like this, it will cause students' mathematics learning outcomes to be low and not as expected. Intelligence contributes to determining the success of the learning process. According to Howard Gardner there are nine kinds of intelligence, one of which is mathematical logical intelligence. Mathematical logical intelligence is related to logic and mathematics so that it is needed in an effort to achieve the goals of mathematics learning. Therefore, a study was conducted on the influence of mathematical logical intelligence on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII students of SMP 34 Padang.
The approach in this study is a quantitative approach. This type of research is associative research. The population in this study were all class VIII 34 SMP Negeri Padang. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. In this study researchers took samples of class VIII.5 as many as 31 students. The research instrument was in the form of a test of mathematical logical intelligence and tests of student mathematics learning outcomes. The data analysis technique used is simple linear regression analysis.
Based on the results of data analysis obtained tcount> t table with tcount = 2.49 and t table = 2.04 with a level α = 0.05 so that H0 is rejected. Then it was concluded that there was a significant effect between mathematical logical intelligence on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII.5 students of SMP 34 Padang. The magnitude of the influence of mathematical logical intelligence on student mathematics learning outcomes can be seen from the value of r_xy = 0.42 and the coefficient of determination 17.64%, meaning that mathematical logical intelligence contributes 17.64% to the mathematics learning outcomes of students with a regression equation Y = 13 , 47 + 0.78X.
From the results of this study the teacher is expected to understand the level of mathematical logical intelligence of students, so as to be able to choose learning methods that will be applied in the learning process in order to develop mathematical logical intelligence and improve student learning outcomes.
