Abstrak

The way of student learning tends to memorize that impact low understanding of mathematical concepts of VIII class, SMPN 4 Payakumbuh. In order to  improve students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, there is one way to get it by using a generative learning strategy. This research purpose is to determine the development of students’ understanding of mathematical concepts in generative learning strategies applied. Kind of this research is quasi-eksperimental research. The study population is students of SMPN 4 Payakumbuh, VIII class, except VIII.7 class. Sample selection by using random sampling. The research instruments consist of quizzes and final test. Development of concept understanding based on the percentage of students who pass and the average value of quizzes every meeting. The result shows the development of students’ mathematical concepts tend to experience an increase in every meeting.
