HUBUNGAN KEBIASAAN MEMBACA MATERI BIOLOGI DENGAN HASIL BELAJAR BIOLOGI SISWA SMP BUNDA PADANG

Abstract
This research was aimed to find out the correlation between reading habits and learning outcomes of biology of students at SMP Bunda Padang.This research was descriptive research with the population was all of the students of class VII and VIII who registered in 2012/2013. The number of population was 112 students. Sampling techniquewasused Empirical Formula andlooked atthe tablesIsaacobtaineda sample of88students. Each class was taken 22 students randomly. Datacollected bydistributing questionnaires of reading habit of biology that consisted 45 items and the result of percentage 71.2% was categorized moderate. Toseethe results ofstudent learningoutcomes, the researcher took the dataof students’ daily tests1 year2012/2013from biology teacher. It was found that the mean of students learning outcomes was 64.7. The results showed that there was a positive correlation between reading habits and learning outcomes of biology that analyzed by using coefficient correlation Product Moment Formula and the value of r- counted was 0.725.Then,the researcher calculated the coefficient determinantindicatedthat reading habit correlatedwith learning outcomes of biology was52.56%. Based on the testing hypothesis, it was found that t counted> t table. It can be concluded that, there was a significant correlation between reading habits and learning outcomes of biology of students at SMP Bunda Padangon the level of significance 95% (α 0.05).
