The Analysis of Students' Thinking Processes in Solving Mathematical Problems in Terms of Extrovert-Introvert Personality in Eighth-Grade SMPN 29 Padang
Abstrak
This research was motivated by the low ability of eighth-grade students in SMP 29 Padang in changing mathematical problems from story forms to mathematical model. There were many kinds of students' thinking processes in solving mathematical problems that given by the teacher which are influenced by the student personalities. This is supported by Dewiyani (2010) who stated that every personality type has different problem-solving method.
The purpose of this study was to describe the thinking processes of eighth-grade students of SMPN 29 Padang who have extroverted and introverted personalities in solving mathematical problems. This research was a descriptive study with qualitative research methods. The population was all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 29 Padang. The VIII.9 students were selected as samples by using purposive sampling techniques. The instruments used in this study were tests of problem-solving skills, personality questionnaires and interview guidelines.
The results of this study indicate that the students with an introverted personality from high groups tend to have assimilation thinking processes while the students with an introverted personality from low groups tend to have accommodation thought processes in solving mathematical problems. While the students who have extrovert personality from high groups tend to have assimilation thinking processes and the students with low group extrovert personality tend to have accommodation thinking processes.
Based on the results of the study, the researcher suggests that the teacher provide any understanding or direction to students to make a solving plan first before solving the problem or reevaluate the solution obtained so the errors that arise in solving problems can be immediately identified and corrected.
