Abstrak

The background of this research is the lack of student’s participation and reading ability in IV class SDN 06 Muara Sakai. This is caused by the application of teacher centralized method in classroom, so that learning situation become boring and monotonous. The purpose of this research is to increase student’s participation and reading ability through application of cooperative integrated reading and composition model (CIRC). This research is class measuring research with two cycles. Subject in this research is 25 students of IV class SDN 06 Muara Sakai. Results in this research indicating the escalation of student’s participation and reading ability with (CIRC) model. Average percentage of student’s participation in each indicator is rising from first cycle to second cycles. In first cycle of research, the percentage of questioning is 38.82%, and climb into 77.08% in second cycles. Percentage of student for answering indicator is 47.72% and 85.41% respectively in first cycle and second cycles of research. Percentage of student for arguing is 23.67% in first cycle rise into 85.41% in second cycles. Average percentage of student’s participation is 36.72% in first cycle rise into 79.16% in second cycles of research. Student’s reading ability in first cycle is 68.4, while in second cycles it is rise into 80. It can be conclude that CIRC model can increase student’s participation and reading ability, then it is suggested to use CIRC model in reading lesson.
