The Role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of West Sumatra in Supervising Public Services in the City of Padang

Abstrak

This research aims to describe the role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of West Sumatra in overseeing public services in the city of Padang. This research was carried out to describe the role of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of West Sumatra in overseeing public services in Padang City, the obstacles of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of West Sumatra in overseeing public services in the city of Padang as well as prevention efforts undertaken by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative of West Sumatra in overseeing public services in the city of Padang. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study with a research location that is the Ombudsman office of the Republic of Indonesia Representative Office in West Sumatra. Data were collected using interview, observation and documentation instruments and analyzed using triangulation. The results of this study indicate that as a public service watchdog, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative Office of West Sumatra plays a role in receiving and resolving public complaints about alleged maladministration in the administration of public services in accordance with the Ombudsman's authority in overseeing forms of maladministration. The obstacles faced by the Ombudsman in the process of completing a community report related to alleged maladministration are the inadequate number of human resources and the less cooperative reported and documentation that requires time so that these obstacles increase the time of completion of the community report. Prevention efforts carried out by the Ombudsman are by conducting socialization, education and studies as well as conducting Reports Acceptance and Verification (PVL) activities on the spot at the place where public services are visited by the public in order to facilitate the public and introduce more widely about the existence of the Ombudsman as a state institution public service watchdog and the Ombudsman collaborate with several parties to increase participation in overseeing public service delivery in the city of Padang.
