Effect of Explicit Instruction Learning Model on Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes Class III SDN 06 Tanah Garam, Solok

Abstrak

The main principle that is most fundamental in the 2013 curriculum is the emphasis on the ability of teachers to implement a learning process that is authentic, challenging, and meaningful for students. Indonesian subjects are expected to be able to improve students' language skills which are covered by four language skills, one of which is reading. However, the ability of students to read is known to be still not as expected. To overcome the problems that have been described is needed an innovation in learning that can improve student learning outcomes by applying the Explicit Instruction model to Class III SDN 06 Tanah Garam, Solok. Based on this, conducted an experimental study with the title “Effect of Explicit Instruction Learning Model on Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes Class III SDN 06 Tanah Garam, Solok”.
This type of research is experimental research. The independent variable in this study is the Explicit Instruction learning model, while the dependent variable is the student's Indonesian learning outcomes and the results of the reading of fairytale text. The population in this study was all students of class III SDN 06 Tanah Garam, Solok, totaling 50 students. The data taken in this study are the results of students' learning Indonesian language and the results of a fairytale text reading test. The instrument used in the study was a multiple choice question that had been validated and a rubric for assessing the ability to read fairytale texts.
The results showed that the average value of class IIIB was 84.31 while in class IIIA without treatment obtained an average of 81.80. Based on the test results of the ability to read fairy tale texts the average score of class IIIB is 86.47 while class IIIA is 82.37, statistically obtained ˃ with a value of 3.457 and 2.012 at α = 0.05, the hypothesis is accepted.
Based on these data it can be concluded that the Explicit Instruction learning model affects the learning outcomes of Indonesian students in the experimental class. Thus, teachers are expected to implement the Explicit Instruction learning model in learning.
