Abstract

This study aims to determine whether learning outcomes (cognitive) biology students taught using inquiry methods taught better than that using the conventional method in class VII SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang and to know the results of studying biology student affective and psychomotor aspects. Type of research is experimental. The population in this study were all students of class VII SMP Kartika Padang 1-7 listed in the school year 2012/2013. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique. To determine the experimental class and the control class, conducted random and obtained experimental class is the class VII5 while VII1 control class is class. Results of this study indicate that the learning outcomes of students who use biological inquiry method is better than the results of biological studies students using the conventional method, with an average value of 78,29 and 73,97 classroom experiment in class with a level of statistical control (= 0,05). Affective learning outcomes experimental class 89% while 84% of the control class and psychomotor learning outcomes experimental class 87% while 85% of the control class. Based on the research results, it was concluded that by using the method of inquiry learning is better than using the conventional method in class VII SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang. It is recommended to teachers in order to apply the method of inquiry in the learning process.
