Darwianis, S.Sos.,MH.This research is motivated by the absence of development of comic-based learning media regarding the characters possessed by students in carrying out learning activities and the low interest in reading that students have. Based on the two effects of the low quality of education, namely strengthening character and reading literacy, a learning medium is needed, that the media is considered the most efficient facilitator in the delivery of education. Interesting learning media will motivate students to learn. Based on this, the researcher conducted development research with the title "Development of Comic-Based Social Studies Learning Media About Various Fields of Work for Class IV Elementary School Students”.Producing comic-based social studies learning media on various fields of work for grade IV students that meet valid and practical criteriaTo fulfill the research objectives, this research was designed using the Research and Development (R&D) method. Sugiyono (2016) argues that "research and development methods are research methods used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products". The data source of this research is primary data. In this study, the data collection technique used was a questionnaire (questionnaire). The validity of comic-based social studies learning media for grade IV SD students is declared valid, with a percentage of 82.19% which means that learning media can be used with a slight improvement as social studies learning media in SD. The practicality of comic-based social studies learning media for fourth grade elementary school students used by teachers and students is stated to be very practical with a percentage obtained by 90%, which means that the comic-based social studies learning media for fourth grade elementary school students developed is very practical to be used as learning media in elementary schools. From these data it can be concluded that social studies learning media based on comics in social studies learning theme 4 sub-theme 1 and sub-theme 2 class IV at SDN 34 Air Pacah Padang has a high level of validity and practicality.Keywords:social studies learning media, comic-based media, development research
