INTRODUCTION Speaking is one of the most important skills to be developed and enhanced as means of effective communication. [1]. In speaking class, teacher and student need interaction each other to minimize students problems. The application like Zoom can be used as media to support teaching and learning process because this application has many innovative features that can help the teacher to deliver engaging on-line lessons.. The teacher and students can use the chat feature, use the video, share the screen and record the lessons. [2]. Students can learn at home to develop their skill in learning speaking. Zoom is one of the feature from playstore that can be used to do teaching learning process from home, when there is pandemic so that the government moved the teaching learning process into on-line class [3]. Before Covid-19, the learning process is done by offline or directly in the classroom. Based on the research done by Tasmia (2015), she was found that the problems in speaking were shyness, grammar, vocabulary and meaning, pronunciation, lack of confident, fear of making mistake, and anxiety. From all problems, the dominant one is pronunciation. Most of students stated that they are afraid of speaking because they do not have many vocabularies and they have trouble in pronouncing the words. They were afraid if they made a mistake in term of pronouncing the words and using the vocabulary [4] The researcher interviewed the headmaster of SMA N 1 Sawahlunto and she stated that in SMA N 1 Sawahlunto there is differentiation between student’s score in speaking through face to face learning process and by using zoom media. In face to face learning speaking, 75%-85% students understand and have a good score. By using Zoom media in learning speaking, around 60% students can understand the material and have a good score. METHOD This research belongs to descriptive research. Descriptive research is research that involves collecting data in order to test hypotheses or answer question concerning the current status of the subject of the study [5]. The population of this research was all of the students of grade XI IPA in SMA N 1 Sawahlunto. The number of sample was 30 students taken by total sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was questionnaire in which the students choose five options (always, often, sometimes, seldom, never). Then, the questionnaire was valid after consulting with expert (lectures). The reliability index of the test was 1.00 which means that the test was reliable. The researcher used Gutman’s idea (2016) [6]. To collcet the data, the researcher communicated with the vice headmaster of SMA N 1 Sawahlunto to share the link of Google Form. Then, the researcher gave instruction to the students to do questionnaire using Whats App. The researcher administered the questionnaire in 60 minutes by using Google Form. Then, the researcher checked the students’ answers and scores in Google Form. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS The results of the research showed the students had problem in learning speaking by using zoom at SMA N 1 Sawahlunto (XI IPA).
