DEVELOPMENT OF ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS BASED ON HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILLS (HOTS) IN SCIENCE LEARNING THEME 7 CLASS V SD NEGERI 36 GUNUNG SARIK PADANG Suci Handayani¹, Siska Angreni¹ ¹Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Bung Hatta University Email : Sucihandayani2621@gmail.com ABSTRACT This study aims to produce a valid and practical Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) based assessment instrument. This type of research is research and development. The development research model used is 4-D development, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. In this study, it is limited to the develop stage. At the validation stage, the HOTS-based assessment instrument was validated by 2 material experts and 1 linguist. Then the item analysis was carried out, namely validity, difficulty index, discriminatory power, and reliability. At the practical stage, the HOTS-based assessment instrument was tested on 21 fifth grade elementary school students and 1 fifth grade elementary school teacher. Based on the results of the validation of the experts, the HOTS-based assessment instrument in science learning Theme 7 class V SD got an average score of 0.91 with a high validity interpretation or met the very valid criteria. The results of the practicality of the HOTS-based assessment instrument in science learning Theme 7 for fifth grade elementary school resulted in an average score of 93.37% with very practical criteria for use by classroom teachers and students. It can be concluded that the HOTS-based assessment instrument in science learning Theme 7 for fifth grade elementary school is declared to be very valid and very practical as a knowledge measurement tool and trains the higher-order thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students.
