A STUDY OF THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY IN SELF-INTRODCUTION AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMKN 4 PAYAKUMBUH

Abstrak

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to describe the students’ speaking ability in self- introduction at the tenth grade of SMKN 4 Payakumbuh. The researcher used descriptive method for this study. The population of this study was the tenth-grade students of SMKN 4 Payakumbuh. The researcher used stratified random sampling to select the sample, and the number of sample was 24 students. The instrument to collect the data in this study was a speaking test. In order for the test to be reliable, the researcher used inter-rater technique. The results of analysis showed that the test was reliable. It was supported by the fact that the correlation coefficient was 0.94. Then the test was valid in terms of content as it covered the material that the students had learned. In general, this study showed that the tenth-grade students’ speaking ability in self-introduction at SMKN 4 Payakumbuh was high. Keywords : speaking, ability, self-introduction,
