Abstrak

Indonesian Language Education in Elementary Schools (SD) has an important role in everyday life. A person’s language skills that are fostered from an early age will be valuable provisions for children to enter the next level of education. Good language skills will have a great influence on life in the wider community. The success of establishing communication with others is also influenced by a person’s mastery of language. Language skills in Indonesian include four aspects, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Situmorang (2018:166) states that writing is a process of producing graphic symbols and activities that produce ideas, thoughts, feelings, to readers through written language media. Based on the results of observations conducted on October 12, 2024 at SDN 03 Bukit Tambun Tulang, Pesisir Selatan Regency, class IV researchers got an idea that the skills of writing descriptive essays in class IV were still less than encouraging and did not receive a positive response from students, only a few students were active. In addition, the teacher's teaching method is one of the causes of many students' scores not reaching the Learning Objective Completion Criteria (KKTP) that has been set, namely 75. The study aims to describe the learning process and improve students' descriptive essay writing skills through the Field Trip method for class IV SDN 03 Bukit Tambun Tulang, Pesisir Selatan Regency. This type of research is classroom action research which is carried out in two cycles, one cycle consisting of two meetings. The procedures in this study are planning, implementing actions, observing and reflecting on actions. The subjects of the study were class IV students of SDN 03 Bukit Tambun Tulang, Pesisir Selatan Regency with a total of 20 students. The results of the study showed that in the observation of teacher activity in cycle I with a percentage of 69.63% and cycle II 82.14% increased by a percentage of 12.51%. From the results of observations of student activities in cycle I with a percentage of 62.49% and in cycle II with a percentage of 87.49% increased by 25%. While the average student learning outcomes in cycle I were 68.42 with a percentage of 55% and the average student learning outcomes in cycle II were 74.5 with a percentage of 85% increased by 30%. Thus, it can be concluded that the Field Trip method can improve writing skills and learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SDN 03 Bukit Tambun Tulang, Pesisir Selatan Regency.
