Abstrak

Education is important in all aspects of human life, including the development of a country. Quality education produces the next generation who are able to realize the development of a nation, and through the education process in elementary school, they develop their lives as individuals, members of society, and citizens, and can form the foundations of science. Education itself covers various fields, one of which is mathematics learning. Learning is a process of changing a person's personality where the change is in the form of improving the quality of behavior, such as increasing knowledge, skills, thinking power, understanding, attitudes, and various other abilities. However, according to W.S.Winkel in (Djamaluddin and Wardana, 2019:43), learning is a mental or psychological activity that takes place in active interaction with the environment that results in changes. Mathematics learning according to Lusianisita & Rahaju (2020:94), is the process of constructing students' understanding of facts, concepts, principles, and skills according to their abilities where the teacher delivers the material, students with their respective potentials construct their understanding of facts, concepts, principles, and skills and problem solving. In addition, the concept of mathematics is something that is very close and we often encounter it in our daily lives. Mathematics is one of the sciences that underlies human life. Since its inception, Mathematics has continued to develop dynamically along with the changing times. Development never stops because mathematics will continue to be needed in everyday life. Therefore, it is very important for us to learn mathematics itself. Mathematics is very important in school learning because mathematics is one of the means to study something logically and systematically. Therefore, it is very important for mathematics to be mastered as early as possible by students. However, there are still many students who do not master mathematics, including elementary school children. Because there are still many students who consider mathematics to be a boring and scary science. This attitude greatly affects student learning outcomes which are getting lower day by day. Based on observations and activities of the School Field Introduction (PLP) carried out by researchers on July 29 and October 26, 2024 in class IV SDN 27 Ladang Hutan, Baso District, researchers found several problems in learning, lack of student involvement in learning, many students still do not like mathematics subjects and the learning outcomes of class IV students of SDN 27 Ladang Hutan in mathematics subjects are not in accordance with the KKTP set by the school, which is 75. And students have not been given a problem related to everyday life so that the mindset in solving problems is less developed. Such as the learning applied is one-way, low learning outcomes and student activities, students are still less able to think critically, lack self- confidence, are unable to work together and are not disciplined in their duties. These problems greatly affect the quality of learning in the classroom, especially mathematics learning. Researchers also conducted interviews with the homeroom teacher IV, namely Mrs. Asnidarwati, S. Pd on Monday and Tuesday, November 4 and 5, 2024 at SDN 27 Ladang Hutan. From the interview results obtained information that in the learning process teachers have begun to apply the Problem Based Learning model but there has not been an effort to improve children's learning outcomes by implementing group learning and explaining the material during the learning process. Although the learning has been implemented, student learning outcomes are still low.
