Abstrak

In the context of education, problem solving ability is one of the key competencies that students must have, especially in mathematics. This ability not only includes the ability to find solutions to given problems, but also involves analytical, creative, and critical thinking processes needed to understand and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life. The gap from the ideal condition is that problem-solving skills among students still vary. This study aims to describe the improvement of problem solving skills by using the discovery learning model in mathematics lessons for grade VI students of Muhammadiyah I Marapalam Elementary School. In this study using Classroom Action Research is research conducted in the classroom by teachers by emphasizing the improvement and refinement of the learning process as well as improving the process and practice of learning by Saputra. There are four stages involved in using classroom action research, namely (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, (4) reflection. Planning is by planning learning tools that are specific to the class and school. The results of this study found that the use of the discovery learning model proved effective in improving problem solving skills in mathematics. This improvement can be seen from the percentage of teacher activities that have increased, where in cycle I it was obtained at 64% with criteria (Good), and increased to 97% in cycle II with criteria (Very Good). In addition, on the problem-solving ability test, there was a significant increase from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the average value of students' problem solving ability only reached 51, which was in the sufficient category and in cycle II, the average value increased to 82, which indicated that students' problem solving ability was in the very good category.
