Abstrak

Speaking ability is one of the important aspects in learning Indonesian, especially in elementary school. In grade V, students are expected to be able to express ideas, opinions, and information clearly and precisely. However, in practice, there are still elementary school students who still have difficulty in developing their speaking skills. Several factors that can cause low speaking ability in elementary school students include lack of opportunities to practice speaking, minimal variation in learning models used by teachers, and lack of motivation and self-confidence in students speaking in front of the class. The low speaking ability of elementary school students can hinder their communication and social interaction processes which can affect their learning achievement at school, especially in Indonesian subjects. Based on the results of observations conducted at SDN 06 Kampung Lapai, data collection on the number of class Vc students on December 4, 2023. The data obtained amounted to 28 students, consisting of 13 males and 15 females. So far, many problems have been identified related to the limited speaking ability of students. The causal components are lack of fluency, shame, and fear of students' speaking abilities because there are still students who are less skilled in speaking. Based on theory of Yetty Morelent (2012), that speaking learnig is often ignored and not handled seriously so that many students are unable and do not dare to speak. One of the efforts that must be made is to determine the right method in implementing speaking teaching, so that speaking teaching is interesting, stimulating, varied, and creates interest in learning for students. Based on these problems, teachers should use learning models and media that attract students' attention and are able to increase students' interest and ability in speaking skills. One effort to improve elementary school students' speaking skills is to apply a learning model that is more student-centered and involves their active participation in the learning process. The Student Facilitator And Explaining (SFAE) model is one of the learning models that can be used to achieve these goals. The Student Facilitator And Explaining (SFAE) model is a learning model that provides students with the opportunity to act as facilitators and explainers of material to their classmates. By applying this model, students will be more active in the learning process, have the opportunity to practice speaking in front of the class, and increase their confidence in speaking. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which includes 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings. The subjects of this study were 28 students of grade V SDN 06 Kampung Lapai. The research instruments used were teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and student learning outcome sheets. The percentage of teacher activity observations obtained in cycle I, which is 56.89% and increased in cycle II with a percentage obtained of 84.48% because in cycle II the researcher is more proficient in the learning model than in cycle I. The percentage of student activity observations in cycle I, which is 69.225% and increased in cycle II with a percentage obtained of 88.45% because students are more active in the learning process than in cycle I. The completeness of students' speaking ability in cycle I is 77.64% with an average learning outcome of 66.28% increasing to 82.972% in cycle II with an average learning outcome of 80.7%, due to students' speaking ability in pronunciation and literacy increasing during the learning process. This means that learning Indonesian using the Student Facilitator And Explaining model can improve the speaking ability of fifth grade students of SDN 06 Kampung Lapai. Thus, it is concluded that the Student Facilitator And Explaining learning model can be used to improve students' speaking ability.
