Abstrak

The problem of the research were low students ability to understand mathematic concept in teaching learning process. The learning only focused on teacher centered and not given enough responses by the students. To overcome the problems, the researcher interested to apply do a research by using guided discovery methods at grade IX of MTsN Payakumbuh. The research aims to determine how student’s mathematical mathematic concept ability at grade IX MTsN Payakumbuh academic year 2013/2014 after the applied guided discovery methods and using conventional learning and to know mathematic concept ability of whether the proportion of students who achieve mastery learning mathematics by guided discovery methods is higher than the proportion of students who achieve mastery learning mathematics using conventional learning. Hypothesis testing using   χ 2 formula two independent samples obtained χ2 = 5,21. . The conclution is proportion of ability mathematic concept of students who achieve mastery learning mathematics using guided discovery methods is higher than the proportion of students who achieve mastery learning math by using conventional learning.
