Abstrak

The Lack of understanding of mathematical concepts at the second grade students of SMP Pertiwi I Padang is one of factors which became the background of this research. The reason is the students’ difficulty in concentrating to remember the information that they have read and learned before. Beside that, most students do not have and bring their learning equipment. Therefore, the research is done by implementing preview, question, read, reflect, recite, and review strategy with work sheet. The purpose of this research is to determine how the students’ development in understanding mathematical concepts at the second grade studenst’ at SMP Pertiwi I Padang by using strategy PQ4R with work sheet and to determine whather the students’ who apply PQ4R strategy with work sheet is better than the students who do not apply this strategy in understanding of mathematical concepts in conventional learning. This type of research is experimental research. Population is all of the second grade students at SMP Pertiwi I Padang. Samples are class VIII one as experiment class and VIII two as control class.  Based on the results of data analysis the conclusion is that students’ understanding of mathematical concepts by using PQ4R strategy with work sheet is better than the students’ understanding of mathematical of concept in conventional learning.
