AN ANALYSIS OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING PERSONAL RECOUNT TEXT AT SMA PERTIWI 1 PADANG

ABSTRACT
This research aimed to describe the tenth grade students’ ability in writing personal recount text at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. The study applied a descriptive design with 30 students selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a writing test and analyzed by an inter-rater technique, which showed high reliability (0.84). The findings revealed that 87% of students had high ability, but weaknesses remained in orientation (60% low) and language features (53% low). It can be concluded that although students’ overall ability was high, more practice and guidance are required in orientation and grammar mastery.
