Abstrak

This research done based on the lack of interaction between a teacher and students, students and students. The lack of understanding of mathematical concepts students. Because of that, researcher used active learning strategies by using Giving Questions and Getting Answers techniques. The purpose of this study were to determined the development of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts, and to compare the understanding of mathematical concepts for students who learned by using the active learning strategy Giving Questions and Getting Answers techniques and conventional learning. This research is an experimental study. The research instruments consist of quiz and final test. Analysis of quizes were observed by observer from the percentage of students who passed each meeting in the experiment class. From the 1st until the 5th quiz, the percentage of experiment class who passed the quiz kept increasing. But at the 6th quiz the percentage more than before, at the 7th quiz it increased again. The conclusion of this research are determined the development of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts, and understanding of mathematical concepts for students who learned by using the active learning strategy Giving Questions and Getting Answers techniques is better than students who learn with conventional learning at VIII class SMPN 1 Sungayang.
