Abstrak

The problem of this research is the lack of interaction between teacher and students and among fellow students and poor student’s mathematical understanding concept at SMPN 1 Kecamatan Payakumbuh. Appropriate strategies to deal with it is Cooperative Learning types Student Teams Achievement Division. The purpose of this research to determine how the development of student’s mathematical understanding concept at grade VII SMPN 1 Kecamatan Payakumbuh by using strategy cooperative strategies student teams achievement division type and determine whether student’s mathematical concept understanding at grade VII SMPN 1 Kecamatan Payakumbuh by using cooperatif learning type STAD better than on mathematical understanding concept of students learning to apply conventional learning. This type of research is experimental. Population is all of students at grade VII SMPN 1 Kecamatan Payakumbuh. Samples are VII.a as experiment class and VII.e as control class. Based on the results of data analysis and  =2,8397,  =1.69. The conclusion is that student’s mathematical understanding concept by using strategy cooperative learning type student teams achievement divison better than on mathematical understanding concept of students learning to apply conventional learning.
