HUBUNGAN MINAT BACA DENGAN KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN SISWA KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 1 LENGAYANG KABUPATEN PESISIR SELATAN

Abstrak

The low score of reading interest to the students of SMPN 1 Lengayang made decrease the stdent’ ability in understanding a reading text, thus they have difficulties in understanding the information and catching the meaning of related text. This research aims to describe the relationship of students’ reading interest and their comprehension ability at class VII SMPN 1 Lengayang in south Pesisir Regency. The type of this research was quantitative by using descriptive method.  The population of this research was all student at the class VII SMPN 1 Lengayang amount 183 student. The sample of researsch was 36 student who taken by random sampling from all population with quote 20% for each class. Based on the result of research and data analysis, showed that: First, students’ reading interest at class VII SMPN 1 Lengayang was in the classification of more than enough with average value 74,58. Second, the students’ ability of reading comprehension at the class VII 1 Lengayang was in the qualification of more than enough with average value about 73,53. Third, the hypothesis outcome showed that t_calculated > t_table, where t_calculated = 3,01 and > t_table = 1,70 with correlation 0,423. This it can be can be concluded H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted, it means there was significant correlation between students’ reading interest toward student’ reading comprehesion ability at the class VII SMPN 1 Lengayang with score 12,89%.
