Abstrak

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to describe the form, type and context of the speech act directive contained in novel from Dari Tanah Haram Ke Ranah Minang by Ummuki. The theory that used is the theory proposed by Harimurti Kridalaksana (2008 ) on the pragmatics , Louise Cummings ( 2010) about the speech act, Abd. Syukur Ibrahim (1993) about the directive speech acts and speech act category directive, and also Geoffrey Leech (1993) about the context of the speech. Kind of this research is a qualitative research using descriptive methods. Object of this research is contained in the speech novel from Dari Tanah Haram Ke Ranah Minang by Ummuki. The research of data collection techniques are: (1) reading a novel by using reading comprehensions, (2) marking the data that found in the novel, and (3) classifying the data based on the theory in the form of table. Technique of analyze the data done as follows: (1) inventory of the data according to the research indicators, (2) examine all of the data has been obtained from reading, observation, and classification, (3) interpret of the data within the context of utterance, and (4) reporting stage, report all stages of data analysis results in the form of descriptive statements. Based on the results of the data analysis, the results showed that the directive speech act category questions more dominating than the other categories of directive speech acts. From this research, it can be concluded that the novel from Dari Tanah Haram Ke Ranah Minang by Ummuki using directive speech acts. Beside that, in every form and kind of directive speech acts in the novel from Dari Tanah Haram Ke Ranah Minang motivated by different contexts.
