ABSTRACT
This research is motivatedbythe idea thatwritingis one of thelastaspects ofthelanguage, becausethroughwriting activitiescan serveas amediumto express themselves, especially writingpoetry. The abilityto writepoetryclass VII-2 stillhas not reached theminimum completeness criteriathat have beenset at75This study aimstodescribethe ability to writepoetryclass VII-2 SMP 4TrunkCottonSouthCoastal District. Literary theoryisused, (1) understandingpoetry, (2) imaging, (3) a fieldmethod. This research isa descriptivequalitative researchmethod. The research wasdone by givingthe task ofwritinga poemto students basedon a fieldthat has beendone, identifyingthe number ofimaging. Objectof this studywasstudentof class VII-2 SMP 4TrunkCottonSouthCoastal District. The results ofthe dataanalysisof the abilityto writepoetryclass VII-2 SMP 4TrunkCottonSouthCoastal Districtfoundthe dataof 29poemswritten by the studentswith325lines/rowsfound106imagesincluding58imagesof sight, hearing29images, 10imagespalpability, 8imagesmotion, 1olfactoryimagery, while theimageryisnot foundthe imageryforetaste. Thus, it can be concludedthat theabilityto writepoetryusingfieldmethodsclass VII-2 SMP 4TrunkCottonSouthCoastal Districthas beenquite good.
