Abstrak

Abstract

This research is motivated by the death of traditional ceremonies began waning in Padang Pariaman District. This study aims to: 1. Implementation ceremonial death in Minangkabau society in Padang Pariaman District. 2. Meaning contained in the traditional ceremonies of death. 3. Meaning of symbols used in traditional ceremonies of death. Type of research is qualitative. The instruments used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate the ceremonial death in Pariaman district began with, bajanguak Dead (dead dijenguk), Cabiak when, bath Maik (tearing shroud and bathing the corpse), Peanut pali (bodies deliver kekuburan), long talkin dikuburan Prayer, chanting 3 days and commemorate the event the 3rd day, 7, 40, and 100 meaning ceremonial death in Padang Pariaman District for the remembrance of Allah and the Day of Judgment, to educate themselves and not rely tied to the world, to the memory of the dead bodies and respect him. Meaning of symbols used in traditional ceremonies of death is as a condition that must exist in the custom event in Pariaman District.
