Abstract

The background of this research is the lack of participation and involvement of the community in the handling of waste management, the general public still littering sebarangan and in general in terms of waste management still rely on the activities of the government. This study aims to: 1). To describe community participation in waste management. 2). To describe the challenges and solutions that affect community participation in waste management. 3). To describe the government's policy in raising public awareness of waste management. This type of research is descriptive. Instruments used are observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study demonstrate community participation in waste management is not maximized, the public in general still littering, is due to a lack of public awareness and understanding of the rules, laws and regulation on waste management. Constraints affecting community participation in waste management is the lack of a level of service, which is responsible institutional, operational and technical community participation in waste management, while the solution is the issuance of regulations, laws and regulation and improve service quality cangkupan adequate waste management. The government's policy in raising awareness of waste management by reducing waste generation as much as possible and also to socialize / counseling to the middle of the community about waste management.
