Abstrak

Abstract

One of the factor which caused many of the student’s grade of class VIII of SMPN 7 Padang was on under the minimum mastery criteria is lack of understanding about mathematical concept. Therefore, teacher should be able to choose a learning model which can improve the student’s understanding of mathematical concept. One of the model which can be used is Problem Based Learning model (PBL) with scaffolding technique. The development of mathematical concept of the students was obtained from the grade of the quiz given at the end of every meeting. Based on analyzing the result of the quiz, it was found that the percentage of the students who passed the quiz was on the increase and decrease. Students’s data of the final test result which had an indicator about mathematical concept was in normal deistribution and homogeneous. The formula t- test was used to test the hypothesis. Based on data analizing, using hypothesis test, it was found that the student’s understanding of mathematical concept by using. Problem based learning Model (PBL) with scaffolding technique is better than student’s mathematical concept by using conventional method to the students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang in academic year 2013/2014.
