Abstrak

ABSTRACT

The background of this research was the lack activity of learning and writing skill  of VII.2 grade students at SMPN 2 Bayang Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan. The purpose of this research was to describe the increase activity of learning and writing skill of students VII.2 class with learning model Problem Based Learning (PBL) at SMPN 2 Bayang. The theory used in this research, was the theory proposed by: (1) Arikunto in action research, (2) Sardiman in student learning activities (3) Amir in the PBL learning model, and (4) Semi and Tarigan in writing skill. This research was a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. The data source was students VII.2 grade at SMPN 2 Bayang consist of 25 students.  To Collect the data used teacher and students observation sheet, student activity sheet, and a written test. Based on the result of the research,  can be seen: (1) the average of student learning activities in the first cycle was 69% and the second cycle was 86%, and increased of 19%, (2) the average of  students' result in writing skill in the first cycle was 70.04, and increased to 87.24 in the second cycle. Thus, it can be concluded that through the model learning of problem based learning can increased learning activities and writing skill VII.2 grade students at SMPN 2 Bayang Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan.
