This study aims to increase the ability of fourth grade students read against the backdrop of the low ability of fourth grade students' reading comprehension. Based on these factors, the researchers conducted a study using strategies Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA).
The theory is used as a reference in this study is the theory DRTA put forward by Farida Rahim and theory read by Saleh Abbas. This type of research is Classroom Action Research, the approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. Subjects were fourth graders totaling 25 people. The data of this study in the form of observations, interviews, field notes, and the assignment of any corrective action learning reading comprehension strategies
using the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA).
The results of each cycle of research conducted in this study by disclosing an increase in the ability of reading comprehension by using strategies Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) in the first cycle and second cycle. The average value of the test results of the first cycle is 68.7. The average value of the second test cycle is 79.6. It can be concluded that the use of Strategies Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) can improve students' understanding of SDN02 Pampangan Class IV.
