The background of this research by the students' lack of interest and lack of speaking skills of students in the learning process. purpose of this research is to increase student interest and students' speaking skills through a model student facilitator and explaining. applied research method is a method of action research. instrument used was a teacher observation sheet, observation sheets interests of students, learning outcomes sheet speaking skills of students, and field notes. based on research conducted in the fourth grade at SDN 01 Ulak Karang south Padang, the use of a model student facilitator and expalining proven to increase interest and speaking skills. This can be seen from the average of the student's interest first cycle 67.7% increase to 90.19% in the second cycle, in addition to the results seen speaking skills also improved from the first cycle by 72.33 percentage increase to 82.81%. based on it can be said that the model student facilitator and explainingdapat increase student interest and students' speaking skills. for it, suggested to teachers to use student models and expalining facilitator in implementing the learning to speak.
