Abstract

 

            The process of learning at SMPN 1 Basa Ampek Balai Tapan was still teacher centered; most students just provide the information from their teacher without asking and don’t want to answer the question given by teacher to them. In the learning process also showed that when teacher asked students to write their answering of their homework to the white board, most of them had uncompleted homework. One of strategies to solve the problem mentioned above was to use learning cycle strategy in teaching math. This research aimed to know what the students activity and their learning outcome of math is during apply learning cycle strategy at class VIII SMPN 1 Basa Ampek Balai Tapan. In general, the students’ learning activities by using this strategy had significant improvement to each meeting although at the last meeting had decrease to the indicator 3 and 4. In order to examine the hypothesis used the formulation t-test and obtained tcount = 4.09376 and ttable = 1.6755 thus tcount> table, it can be concluded that the students’ learning outcome of math by using learning cycle strategy was better than student teaching with conventional strategy.
