PENGARUH PENERAPAN MODEL DISCOVERY LEARNING MELALUI PENDEKATAN SAINTIFIK TERHADAP PEMAHAMAN KONSEP MATEMATIS SISWA KELAS VII SMPN 12 PADANG

Abstract

The lack of ability students in understanding the mathematical concepts in class VII SMP 12 Padang in math is became the background of this research. This is because in the learning process, teacher is more focused on providing the theory with examples of questions, so that students are not trained to acquire knowledge from their experience. Therefore, in this research, discovery learning model through scientific approach is applying. The purpose of this study is to observe the development of students' understanding in mathematical concepts as long as the applying of discovery learning models through scientific approach and to know whether the students understanding of mathematical concepts in experimental class better than in the control class in class VII SMP 12 Padang, academic year 2014/2015. Type of this research is a semi-experimental research. The population in this study were students of class VII SMP 12 Padang 2014/2015 academic year which consist of six homogeneous classes. The sample in this research is class VII.3 as experimental class and class VII.4 as the control class. Based on the students understanding of mathematical concepts data from both of classes, the hypothesis test using t-test is done and obtained t-test=1.84 and t-table=1.66, so that the hypothesis is accepted at the level of 95%. Thus the students understanding of mathematical concepts in experimental class better than the students understanding of mathematical concepts in control class of class VII SMP 12 Padang. The ability of students in understanding mathematical concepts who apply the Discovery Learning model with scientific Approach in mathematics class VII SMP 12 Padang is increasing and the student understanding of mathematical concepts in experimental class better than the students understanding of mathematical concepts in control class in class VII SMP 12 Padang.
