Abstrak

The purpose of this action research to describe the increase in activity and student learning outcomes in science teaching in class V SDN 8 Cape Tower, Sijunjung. This type of research is a classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles, consisting of two meetings and one final exam cycle. The subjects were students of class V SDN 8 Cape Tower, which amounted to 20 students. The research instrument used is the observation sheet implementation of the learning process of teachers, observation sheet student learning activities, students' achievement test, and camera. From the analysis of student activity observation sheet, obtained by the percentage of students working together activity of 60.5 % in the first cycle increased to 80 % in the second cycle, the percentage of students activities of expression by 55 % in the first cycle increased to 72.5 % in the second cycle, and the percentage of student activity in completing the task of 57.5 % in the first cycle increased to 80 % in the second cycle. Student learning outcomes increased with an average score of 70 with a percentage of 60 % in the first cycle to 83.25 with a percentage of 90 % in the second cycle. This means learning by using a contextual approach can improve the activity and student learning outcomes SDN grade 8 Tanjung Gadang. Based on these results, the researchers suggested that teachers can use contextual approach in learning to improve the activity and student learning outcome.
