Abstract


            This research is motivated by the lack of reading skills of students in learning Indonesian, and teachers tend to use methods of lecture and question and answer. The purpose of this research is to improve the reading skills of students in fourth grade Pagambiran Padang State 35 using the model Word Square. This research is a classroom action research (CAR). The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of the model Word Square can improve students' reading skills. This research was conducted in two cycles. The research instrument used in this study is the observation sheet teacher, student observation sheet reading ability and achievement test. Based on the results of research conducted in the fourth grade 35 Pagambiran Negeri Padang, the use of models Word Square proven to improve students' reading comprehension skills. It can be seen from the average increase reading comprehension skills of students' final test results first cycle with an average percentage of 53.3% completeness, increased in the second cycle the average completeness 86.7% (33.4% rise). Based on this it can be said that the model of Word Square can improve students' reading comprehension skills in implementing pembelajarab reading.
