TEACHING VOCABULARY THROUGH VISUAL AND VERBAL TECHNIQUE

Abstrak

The aim of this paper is to describe how to teach vocabulary by using visual and verbal technique.  Visual technique includes flash cards, photographs, wall charts, blackboard drawing and relia. These techniques concern with visual memory.  Verbal technique includes synonym, antonym, definition and example. Visual and Verbal technique can make teaching and learning more interesting and students will understand the meaning of the vocabulary easier. The procedures of teaching vocabulary by using visual and verbal technique are preparation, pre-teaching, whilst teaching and post teaching. In preparation, the teacher prepares the material, media and lesson plan. In whilst teaching, the teacher implements the visual and verbal technique and shows of the picture related to synonym, antonym and definition of the word. The last, in post-teaching, the teacher concludes the lesson and gives the task to the students in order to know whether the students understand or not about the material given.
