Abstrak

This study was aimed to describe code switching based on cause of code switching, the function of code switching, and the purpose of using code switching by Indonesian teacher outside the teaching and learning process in SMAN 1 Canduang in Canduang, Agam. The theories that were used were proposed by Chaer and Agustina, Nursaid and Maksan, and Kushartanti, et al about code switching. The reasearch design of this study was descriptive qualitative, that was by collecting the data, identifying the data, analyzing the data, interpreting the data, and concluding the data. The sample of this study was code switching that was used by Indonesian teacher that was occurred outside the teaching-learning process. The results of research was found 35 data of code switching. The code switching was consisted of code switching of people, conveyed the shouting, restated the statements, and established intimacy. However, the most dominant was code switching of people and established intimacy, and the least of code switching was to convey the shouting. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Indonesian teacher at SMAN 1 Canduang in Canduang, Agam often used code switching outside teaching and learning process
