Abstrak

The low interest junior high school students continuing their schooling to the vocational school in ICT fields in Padang is a background of the problem of this research. Where based on observation to several schools in Padang, students expressed keen interest in continuing their schooling to the vocational school is as big as 26,86 %. The purpose of this research is to express contribution self-concept and knowledge of employment opportunities against interest junior high school students continue to vocational school in ICT fields. The type of the research is descriptive of correlational. The population research in the number of 573 students of class IX that consist of the students from SMPN 22, SMPN 27, and SMPN 35 selected from a total of 230 students. The sample collection technique was done using proportional random sampling technique. Data was gathered through poll by using likert scale that has been tested and have a validity and reability. In the analysis of the data the writer use a statistical method with the help of software SPSS version 17. Results of the analysis of the data shows: (1) self-concept give contribution of 38,31 % to interest junior high school students register at vocational school in Padang. (2) knowledge of employment opportunities give contribution of 31.36 % to interest junior high school students register at vocational school in ICT fields in Padang. (3) self-concept and knowledge of employment opportunities give contribution of 62,88 % to interest junior high school students register at vocational school in ICT fields in Padang. This means that self-concept and knowledge of employment opportunities affect interest of vocational school in ICT fields as the next choice.
