Abstrak

The purpose of this research were to describe code-mixing and causes of code mixing used by teacher in Bahasa Indonesia learning process of SDN 01 Baringin Anam-Baso, Agam Regency. The theory of the research were (1) Nursaid and Maksan theory (2002) about types of code-mixing,  and (2) Nababan’s theory (2002) about causes of code-mixing happened. This research was descriptive qualitative research. This research used recording technique which recording teacher’s utterances in learning process, writing out the result of recording, grouping the utterances. After analyzing the data, it was found that type of code-mixing often used was inner code-mixing. The teacher mixed first language (Bahasa Indonesia) and second language (Bahasa daerah) in order to make students comprehend the material easily.  It can be concluded that the result of the research indicates that causes of code-mixing used by teacher in Bahasa Indonesia learning process of SDN 01 Baringin Anam-Baso, Agam Regency were students comprehend the materials easily if the teacher used bahasa daerah or Minangkabau language.
