This research is motivated to lack the ability to read the fourth grade students of SDN 26 Nanggalo District of Koto XI Tarusan South Coastal District. This is due to the teachers still use conventional methods and learning only teacher-centered resulting learning process becomes less effective. The purpose of this study was to describe the ability to read the fourth grade students of SDN 26 Nanggalo Koto XI Tarusan South Coastal District by using the strategy of Direct Reading Activity. Read by Rahim (2011:3) is a complex and involves many things, not just recite the writing, but also involves visual, thinking, psycholinguistics, and metacognitive. While the purpose of reading according to Tarigann (2008: 9-10) acquire and update knowledge as well as linking the new information to the information already possessed. The strategy used in this study is the strategies Direct reading Activity (DRA), DRA according to Hamzah and Nurdin (2011: 114) is a strategy used to expand and strengthen the learning ability of students. Results of the first cycle study gained an average score of the percentage of students 'reading ability that engineering students read 20%, 32.5% thought main findings and concludes the lesson 42.25% and student learning outcomes 66. In the second cycle the average percentage of students' reading ability ie 75% of students' reading technique, subject matter invention 82.5% and 77.75% deduce lessons and learning outcomes 79. This means the target indicators in this study was achieved and the implementation of learning Indonesian with Reading Activity Directed approach is progressingwell.
