PROBLEMS FACED BY THE THIRD GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP PERTIWI 2 PADANG IN WRITING PROCEDURAL RECOUNT TEXT

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe the problems faced by the students in writing procedural recount text. The design of this research was descriptive research. The population of this research was the third grade students of SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang. The total population was 160 students. Because the population was so large that the researcher used sample. To get the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique. The number of sample was 32 students. The data of this research was gathered by using writing test. To know the reliability of the test, the researcher used inter-rater technique. The test was reliable because the value of r-calculated was 0.99. It could be categorized into very high correlation. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the students had problems in writing procedural recount text. It was supported by the fact that 19 students (59%) had problem and 13 students (41%) had no problem. Based on the result, the researcher suggests that the teacher give more explanation and exercises in writing procedural recount text. The researcher also suggests to the students that they need to learn more about procedural recount text.
