PENINGKATAN KEMAMPUAN MENULIS CERPENSISWA KELAS X DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN MODEL PROBLEM BASED INSTRUCTION (PBI) DI SMAN 1 LEMBAH MELINTANG KABUPATEN PASAMAN BARAT

Abstrak

This research is background ofthe lack of ability grade X.3 students SMAN 1 Lembah Melintang Kabupaten Pasaman Barat in writing short stories. The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of the student’s ability in writing short stories grade X.3 students by using Problem Based Instruction (PBI) model at SMAN 1 Lembah Melintang. The theory used in the study consist of: (1) Arikunto (2012) about an action research, (2) Semi (2009) and Tarigan (2005) about  writing skills, (3) Widjojoko and Endang (2006), and Jingga GM (2012) about the short story, and (4) Istarani (2011) about PBI learning model. The kind of this research is a classroom action research that was conducted in two cycles. Collecting data used teachers and students’ observation sheets, a written test, and field notes. Prior to the study, from 41 students, it was found that 19 students were failed, with the acquisition of an average value of 46,34. After the writer has finished the observation in cycle I , it was found that : (1) the average percentage of teachers in the first cycle is equal to 81% and increased in the cycle II to 93%, (2) the average percentage of students in the cycle I is 83% and increased in the cycle II to 96%, (3) the average results of students ability in writing short stories in the cycle I  is 64,05, being in enough qualification , and (4) the average results of students ability in writing short stories in the cycle II  is 86,32, being in very good qualification. Thus, it can be concluded that through Problem Based Instruction learning model can improve the student’s ability in writing short stories grade X.3  students of SMAN 1 Lembah Melintang Kabupaten Pasaman Barat.
