AN ANALYSIS OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING A PARAGRAPH ABOUT FUTURE PLANS AT SMAN 01 MUKOMUKO, BENGKULU
Abstrak
ABTRACT
The aim of this research was to find out to the eleventh grade students’ ability in writing a paragraph about future plans at SMAN 01 Mukomuko, Bengkulu. To be more specific it was aimed to find out the students’ ability in expressing the idea (content), using grammar, using appropriate vocabulary, and using mechanics in writing a paragraph about future plans. The design of this research was descriptive. The members population were 217 students. The researcher used stratified cluster random sampling technique to select the sample since the students were distributed into seven classes; exact science and social science. The total number of sample members was 60 (XI MIA4 AND XI IIS 1). In collecting data, the researcher used writing test. The researcher found the reability coefficient for total test was very high (.81). It means that the test was reliable. Then, the test was valid in terms of content validity. Based on the results of data analysis, the researcher found that 63.33 % students classified into moderate criteria in writing a paragraph about future plans. Specifically, the researcher found that there were there were 81 % students classified into moderate in expressing ideas (content), 68.33 % students classified into moderate criteria in using correct grammar, 70 % students classified into moderate criteria in using appropriate vocabulary and 66.67 % students classified into moderate criteria in using mechanis. Based on the results, the researcher gives suggestion to the English teachers to give more exercises about writing future plans. The students are suggested to do more exercises to understand the content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics in a paragraph. Further researchers are suggested to study about factors that make students have difficulties in writing a paragraph about future plans.
