AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN TELLING UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE AT MTSN DURIAN TARUNG PADANG

Abstract
This research aimed to find out the grammatical errors made by the second year students at MTsN Durian Tarung Padang.The design of the research was descriptive.The population of this reseach was the second year students at MTsN Durian Tarung Padang.The members of the population was 197 students. The reseacher took 32 students (class 8.6) as the sample.In selecting sample,the reseacher used cluster random sampling technique.The researcher found the reliability of the test by using inter-rater technique.It was found that the coefficient correlation was very high (.93).It means that the test was reliable.Then,the test was valid in terms of content validity.The result of data analysis revealed that the second year students at MTsN Durian Tarung Padang made grammatical errors in telling unforgettable experience.It can be seen that93.75% or 30 students made grammatical errors in using verb forms,84.37% or 27 students made grammatical errors in using subject verb/be agreement,40.62% or 13 students made grammatical errors in using articles,59.37% or 19 students made grammatical errors in using preposition,50% or 16 students made grammatical errors in using pluralization,31.25% or 10 students made grammatical errors in using pronoun,65.62% or 21 students made grammatical errors in using conjunction.Based on the result,the researcher gives suggestions to teachers to pay attention to students’ grammatical errors in speaking and minimize them by creative ways.For students,it is suggestedfor them tominimize the grammatical errors by doing various activities to improve their ability in speaking,especially in telling unforgettable experience. Further researchers are expected to find and analyze the factors which influence the students’ grammatical errors in telling unforgettable experience.
