AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN READING ALOUD AT BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The goal of this research was to find out the students’ reading aloud ability at Bug Hatta University. The number of population was 50 students. There were distributed into two classes; and B. The researcher took a class as sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The selected class as sample was class B. the researcher gathered the data by using Reading Aloud test. To analyze the data the researcher use inter rater technique. The result of analysis showed that 65.38% students who had moderate ability in fluency, 65.38%students who had moderate ability in pronunciation, and 65.38% students who had low ability in intonation. Based on the result above, the ability of the second year students of English Department of Bung Hatta in reading aloud was moderate, for the lecturer, the researcher suggests the lecturers is expected to create sufficient drills in teaching how to read with good fluency, pronunciation and intonation correcly, in purpose of improving students’ ability in reading aloud. For the students, The researcher suggests for students do more drills on reading aloud because reading aloud is the activity using loud and clear voice for building student knowledge or improving student comprehension them to read. The next researchers are suggested to do a research on factors making students got difficulties to read aloud and to use this research finding as reference in conducting it.
